Peoples' State Bank
About Us

History

On June 26, 1997 a group of eleven local business leaders met at the Holiday Inn, Lake City, Florida for the purpose of holding an organizational meeting for a new community bank in Lake City. After quickly coming to agreement on the needs for such a bank, and the purpose of its' operation, the group filed Articles of Incorporation for PSB BancGroup, Inc. on the very next day. Over the next several months the group worked through the regulatory red tape required to establish a bank. They then completed filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission and offered shares for sell in the new company to the public.

The promise of a new community owned and operated bank was well received and most of the capital required to open the bank was raised right within a few miles of the bank. On April 28, 1999, Peoples State Bank was opened for business. The first day's business resulted in over $1.7 million in new deposits and the bank has continued to grow steadily ever since. We now have thousands of local customers and Total Assets in excess of $70 million dollars.

We began operating out of temporary facilities while our building was being constructed. Although we were tight on space, the excitement of having a modern and spacious new bank building kept us going. Over the 2000 Memorial Day weekend we boxed up everything and moved into our new Main Office!

A second office has now been opened in West Lake City at the intersection of US Highway 90 West and County Road 252B near Deputy Jeff Davis Lane. This 3,000 square foot building houses a full-service banking office.

Our first full profitable year occured in 2002 and our first dividend of 4 cents per share was paid to the shareholders of PSB BancGroup, Inc. during January 2006.

Peoples State Bank is not the biggest bank in town, but we aim to be the best bank in town by providing you with the kind of old-fashioned friendly service of a by-gone era. We invite you to join us as we make more banking history in Columbia County, Florida.
